SIRIO opens €16M full-service packaging facility on German site
New facility’s automated packaging lines provide annual filling capacity for 20 million blisters and 5 million bottles.
SIRIO Pharma (SIRIO®) – the global nutraceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) – has invested €16 million in a dedicated and purpose-built packaging facility, with automated packaging lines, at its Pritzwalk campus near Berlin, Germany. This brings its total investment at the site to €19 million over the last five years. This investment follows a record-breaking year for the company, with revenues reaching €469 million, reflecting a 43% year-on-year growth as the CDMO continues to expand its presence and capabilities across Europe, APAC and USA.
The new facility features state-of-the-art bottling and blistering lines, supporting both bulk supply and private label options. This enables SIRIO to offer customers a complete end-to-end solution, from formulation development to final product packaging.
The facility is designed to ensure the seamless transfer of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical softgels from the adjacent manufacturing site, all operating under a unified pharmaceutical GMP standards regimen, approved for both human and veterinary medicinal products. Consequently, strict quality controls are maintained throughout the entire production process from manufacturing to the final packaged product.
Significantly, the new packaging lines are equipped with advanced process-control technologies, including a fully automated bottling line with robotic palletization. Operating to pharmaceutical-grade GMP standards, these packaging lines guarantee rapid processing, with production-to-delivery times as fast as three weeks.
The facility’s two new lines significantly augment its production capabilities. The first is a high-speed bottling line with a customizable output of up to 5 million bottles per year, accommodating bottle sizes ranging from 75ml to 400ml. The second line can fill 20 million blister packs annually, across ten blister formats, tailored for both oval and oblong softgels. The site boasts an overall bulk production capacity of 2 billion capsules per year.
To guarantee stringent quality control, the packaging lines are fitted with advanced visual inspection systems and in-line process control technologies. These systems monitor parameters such as physical appearance, product weight, and metal detection—so sensitive that even a single capsule failure triggers an operator alert.
“We have grown significantly in recent years and, as a result, have doubled down on investing in advanced manufacturing technology. With our state-of-the-art packaging facility, we now offer full-service, pharmaceutical-grade softgel development in Germany. Our teams bring incredible experience, spanning over 30 years, and by completing everything from R&D to final packaging on a single site, we offer significant advantages to our customers, who benefit from pharma-grade quality at every phase of production,”
commented Sara Lesina, General Manager, SIRIO Europe & Americas.
The new investment is enhanced further by impeccable environmental credentials, with the facility supported by energy-saving heat pumps, energy recovery technology, and solar panels. The site is certified Organic (EC Regulation 2018/848), Friends of the Sea Standard (FOS), by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for Chain of Custody Standards, as well as IFS Food and BRCGS.
The announcement was made at CPHI Milan, and the formal facility inauguration ceremony was held on October 16th in Pritzwalk.
